THE PROJECT:

EVERMORE PARK

THE CLIENT:

KEN AND PATRICE BRETSCHNEIDER

  • PROJECT DETAILS:

I met with Ken in 2016, when he gave me a tour of the work he and his team were doing while building the first versions of The Void (the groundbreaking VR Walk-through experience). Ken showed me a model of Evermore Park and asked if I would be interested in helping him build his vision.

I was officially brought in by Ken and Josh Shipley In March of 2018 as Director of Show Design and Production Design and given the opportunity to interview and build a team to build the park in a very short time frame. We were given 7 months from the time I was hired to prepare for our opening date in September that year.

Under my direction, my team of 11 artists and designers build 7 sets (mostly interior but with exterior finishes), secured and aged all props, created a graphics and nomenclature guide for signage, procured and built signage, secured and decorated 5 themed renaissance tents, built and painted a massive pumpkin stage, designed and carved 2,500 jack o’ lanterns, designed and built our themed FanX booth, and all wayfinding for the park.

  • PROJECT ROLE:

Show Design and Production Design Director

  • PROJECT COMPLETION/OPENING:

September 8, 2018 we had completed all given assignments and continued to maintain all items for the park during our first three seasons (as well as decorative/prop lighting).

  • PROJECT APPROVALS

    Ken Bretschneider, Josh Shipley

PLAN & ELEVATIONS

I established buy-offs with my team once a week. I set up reviews as both a critique session and buy-off for Ken to approve and physically stamp each piece of art (with an actual approval stamp) so we would have a segway to build each show/set item in the shop. I also had a calendar deadline established in order to keep my team on track for our opening date.

SCENIC TREATMENT

I interviewed and hired well known film set/scenic painter, Chad Davis to work on all buildings and set pieces for the entire park. Chad would create a sample for my approval, which then I’d tee-up to Ken for final buy-off.

"I have had the pleasure of working with Josh for several years on many unique projects from concept design to fabrication with amazing results. Josh understands the importance of detail, not only regarding design and execution, but also paying attention to important time/budget considerations. Josh is very organized and has experience that spans the entire creative process, but he also plans each project with purpose, always considering the guest experience. He has developed a strong network of creatives to assist in that vision. In addition to his many talents, Josh is a delight to work with, someone who genuinely cares not only about his professional commitments, but also the people he works with."

“Beyond its immersive nature, the most remarkable aspects of Evermore are found in its technical achievements. The set design is top-notch, with all of the existing structures and scenery instantly transporting patrons to a faraway world worthy of a blockbuster fantasy film.”
